Nickel is silvery-white. hard, malleable, and ductile metal. Pure nickel shows significant chemical activity, but larger pieces of the metal are slow to react with air due to the protective oxide surface.
The major use of nickel is in the preparation of alloys. About 46% of nickel production is for making nickel steels, 34% in nonferrous alloys or super alloys, 14% electroplating, and 6% in other uses. Nickel alloys are characterized by strength, ductility, and resistance to corrosion and heat.

Those are used for pots and pans, kitchen sinks, and many others, as well as in homes, food processing devices, medical gadgets, and chemical facilities.

About sixty-five percent of the nickel that is produced is used to manufacture stainless steel. any other 20% is used in other steel and non-ferrous alloys - regularly for exceedingly specialized commercial, aerospace, and army packages. approximately 9% is utilized in plating and 6% in other uses, along with coins, electronics, and batteries for portable systems and hybrid vehicles.
